Lesson 1 Group 3-

Direct Instruction

We finally reached group 3’s turn for fieldwork teaching. I was really impressed with their lesson. Group 3’s direct instruction lesson was on the two early explorers Hernando DeSoto and Francisco Vasquez de Coronado. During their instruction the group made sure to engage the 5th grade students by asking questions and repeating major key terms or facts about the explorers. One major term the class really enjoyed saying was “Encomienda”. At the end of instruction the group engages the class by using the SmartBoard to create a matching game activity. The class really enjoyed this. One thing for sure the students recalled during the activity was the word “Encomienda”. This direct instruction lesson given by the group was well designed. Most importantly the group made sure to constantly check for understanding by asking the students question during their direct instruction. The group also engages students by playing a matching review game at the end.

Well Done Group 3!!!!!
